We use synthetic biology approaches to create microbial cell factories for production of enzymes, antimicrobial peptides, innovative materials (e.g. biopolymers) and chemical building blocks (e.g. carboxylic acids, terpenes) contributing to a resource-efficient and sustainable economy. Comprehensive methodologies for risk assessment of environmental and human exposure will be developed to fulfil regulatory demands for commercialisation.
