Since 2008

The Centre of Molecular and Environmental Biology (CBMA) is a FCT Research Unit, created in 2008 and hosted at the School of Sciences of UMinho.

Our mission is to deliver excellence in research and postgraduate training in Biological Sciences, while fostering scientific literacy and knowledge transfer to our stakeholders at national and international levels.

The CBMA team integrates 48 researchers, 41 PhD students and 60 MSc students.

Our strategy for 2018-22 is based on three pillars: RESEARCH, ADVANCED TRAINING, and SOCIETY, which are rooted in our mission to address the 2030 UN Agenda for Sustainable Development.

By addressing the complexity of biological systems at distinct levels of organization, from molecules to the biosphere, and benefiting from the expertise of a cross-disciplinary team, the CBMA activities enable an Integrative Biology approach to address issues of biosustainability.
