TRAINEES REACHED

We aim to empower the next generation of skilled researchers through training. We offer national and international PhD programs and a wide range of advanced courses. We facilitate students’ mobility in top international institutions. Our focus is on advancing career growth through mentoring and skill-building.

Advanced Courses

CBMA fosters a culture of internationalization and excellence, providing advanced training in strategic scientific areas, under an immersive atmosphere during intense short-term periods (1-2 weeks). Guest lecturers include recognized foreign researchers.

You can explore the full selection of advanced courses here. The course portfolio changes every year. Check out this year’s offer in our advertisement poster (or download it as a pdf file).

Specialised Training Courses

Flexible training opportunities are available for prospective students or early-stage researchers that wish to boost or certify their research competencies. These short-term courses follow a customizable modular structure, allowing a personalized capacitation portfolio for the trainees.

Specialisation Course in Molecular Genetics of Yeasts
Specialisation Course in Safety and Good Practices in Biosciences Laboratories
Specialisation Course on Competencies in Scientific Research

Mentoring

We endorse initiatives that assist students and early career researchers in advancing their career development and securing funding opportunities. Besides maintaining open lines of communication between young researchers and senior members (including the board of directors), we promote guidelines for best practices in applications, internal discussion forums (e.g., testimonies sharing past successful experiences), and organizing internal mock-review of grant or job applications.

Lifelong Learning

In close collaboration with CBMA stakeholders, including the IB-S Strategic Business Council (composed of key industrial and business partners), we provide training programs (e.g., on-site courses) for industry, services or business professionals aimed at updating competences and skills in areas such as biostatistics, ecological footprint, climate services, food safety, agro-pest control, or biotechnological advances. For requests of customized training programs or for more information, please contact cbma_sec@bio.uminho.pt.

Other Initiatives

Complementary training initiatives are designed to cover a broad spectrum of key competencies, including ethics and research integrity, public science and policies, data analysis and management, grant writing, project management, communication skills and stage performance, as well as career planning. We additionally foster the organization of various symposia and seminars with invited scientists and support in-house initiatives, such as the annual symposium of PhD students (PhD|Bio). CBMA also endorses the portfolio of training opportunities for PhD students (transferable skills) and supervisors (good practices in doctoral supervision) provided by the Doctoral College of the University of Minho.
