Background
Rui Oliveira has a degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, a master’s degree in molecular Microbial Genetics, and obtained a PhD in Sciences in 2003. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology of the School of Sciences of the University of Minho and a researcher as an integrated member of the Center for Molecular and Environmental Biology of the University of Minho.
Research Interests
His research interests are bioactivities of plant extracts and phytochemicals, including microalgae and macroalgae. The bioactivities of his research are antigenotoxic, antioxidant, antimicrobial against phytopathogenic fungi and neuroprotective. He also has interest in novel fluorescent purine derivatives as potential cellular viability markers and organelle-labeling research tools.
