Background
Maria João Sousa is a Biochemist (University of Porto, 1987) with a PhD in Biomedical Sciences, specializing in Microbiology (University of Porto, 1994). In 2011, she obtained the title of Habilitation in Biology by the University of Minho. Currently, she serves as an Associate Professor at the University of Minho.
Research Interests
Employing Integrative Biology approaches, she crosses findings from biochemical and physiological studies with genomic, transcriptomic, and metabolomics data to elucidate the molecular foundations of yeast behavior, namely its responses to different environmental stresses or changes, that can be exploited to develop fitter and better-performing yeasts.
