The proposed research plan will provide insight into fine interactions between Root-knot nematodes (RKN) and tomato rootstocks to advance fundamental and agroecological knowledge on plant-pathogen interactions and could be further used to exploit novel control options based on ascarosides, and build predictive models for crop protection against RKN, considering climatic trends.

Abstract

In this proposal, a detailed survey will be conducted to assess the distribution, population size, and prevalence of TRV and plant parasitic nematodes in the main potato cropping regions of Portugal; populations of these pathogens will be identified through morphological, biochemical and molecular techniques, and their assemblages characterized through statistical analyses of the data.
