The project GONE – A Drop in the Ocean (Uma Gota no Oceano (PT)) aims to make citizens capable of making informed and responsible decisions about the Ocean and its resources. Although this is a consolidated issue on the political agenda and several indicators show that awareness of the Ocean has been increasing, it still does not translate into significant benefits for its sustainable development. This fact seems to show that traditional environmental education actions have not been enough, as these normally attract a school-age audience or people already aware of these issues. Thus, it is essential to monitor changes and trends in the behaviour of the target audience of awareness campaigns, or there is a risk that they have a limited reach and impact. At a time when the internet opens borders and creates new paths, this project intends, through one of the most comprehensive and most vital means of communication today, to communicate science, in particular Ocean literacy.
