Poor planning and management of dams and canals is “fatal to many species”.

Artificial freshwater habitats may become “ecological traps” due to poor management or lack of conditions for certain species, especially in areas of the planet where natural habitats have been reduced. The alert is given by Ronaldo Sousa, from CBMA, in an investigation now published in the scientific journal Global Change Biology.
