Background
After a BSc in Biology at the University of Aveiro (in 1998), I progressed onto an MSc in Ecology at the University of Coimbra (2002) followed by a PhD in Biology at the University of Aveiro (2007). After two post-docs fellowships and a 5-y researcher position (Ciencia 2008), I became Assistant Professor at the University of Minho in September 2017. I am one of CBMA’s vice-directors since 2022.
Research Interests
I investigate how organisms cope with the multiple dimensions of anthropogenic stress, considering their environmental and evolutionary context. I am mostly interested in understanding the subtle impacts of human disturbance in freshwater organisms, driven by the belief that we need strong scientific underpinnings for tackling ecosystem degradation and the current biodiversity crisis.
