Background

Andreia C. Gomes graduated in Biology (1999) by the University of Porto and holds a PhD in Neurology (2004) from Karolinska Institutet, Sweden. After a post-doc (2004-2007) at Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência/Instituto de Medicina Molecular, in Lisbon, she joined the University of Minho as an Assistant Professor (Associate Professor since 2021).

Research Interests

Andreia Gomes current interests are focused on the development of bioinspired drug delivery systems to promote human well-being. This implies a wide range of approaches from screening bioactive compounds extracted from organisms such as plants or macroalgae, to devising multifunctional nanodevices with components produced by cell factories or using eco-friendly strategies such as green synthesis. The implementation of cell models or zebrafish embryos-based assays is a major interest.
