Background
Alberto Dias holds a Degree in Applied Biology from the University of Lisbon (1989), an MSc in Biotechnology from IST (1993), and a PhD from the University of Minho (2001). He has been a professor at the University of Minho (UMinho) since 1991 and is currently an Associate Professor with full tenure. He coordinates the SINO-PT Center at IBs (CBMA/UMinho), directs the PhD MedFoodPlant program in collaboration with several Chinese universities and USP from Brazil, and serves as a member of the scientific board of the Master 3BP program.
Research Interests
His research area includes the study of secondary metabolites and their bioactivities, focusing on antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective properties. Additionally, he promoted the development of products incorporating plant functional extracts, fractions and compounds in several matrices (nanoparticles, textiles, cosmetics, functional foods, phytopharmaceuticals). Alberto Dias is also strongly committed with translational research and strength collaborations with public and private stakeholders. On this respect he established several research protocols with companies as well as got several QREN projects linked with private companies.
