I work as Assistant Professor at the Department of Biology, University of Minho where he teaches Molecular biology and Bioinformatics. I am a member of the research centre CBMA (Center for Molecular and Environmental Biology). Research interests include metabolic engineering of Saccharomyces cerevisiae for efficient metabolism of new substrates and production of new biotechnologically interesting products. I developed the Yeast Pathway Kit for assembly and expression of large pathways in yeast. I am also interested in reproducible science and I have developed computational tools such as pydna for formal expression of cloning strategies.
