Lorena Donzella was awarded with the Microbiology Society Poster Prize
Lorena Donzella was awarded with the Microbiology Society Poster Prize in the ICY15 meets ICYGMB30 (International Congress on Yeast and International Conference of Yeast Genetics and Molecular Biology) held online on the 23-27 of August 2021.
Her poster was titled: “Studying native Kluyveromyces marxianus transporters to reprogramme the balance between hexose and pentose transport”, part of this work was recently published in FEMS Yeast Research Journal (https://doi.org/10.1093/femsyr/foab026), and it was defined by the ICY15 judging panel as excellent. The presented work sheds light on the importance of studying pentose uptake in yeast for the complete utilization of raw materials named lignocellulosic biomass.
The study was conducted in CBMA (Centro de Biologia Molecular e Ambiental) – UMinho (Portugal) under the supervision of Prof. Maria João Sousa in collaboration with the School of Microbiology – UCC (Ireland) under the supervision of Dr John Morrissey.
