CBMA and Department of Biology host Erasmus+ BIP and Advanced Course on Plant Molecular Responses in a Changing Environment

The Centre of Molecular and Environmental Biology (CBMA) and the Department of Biology (DB) of the School of Sciences, University of Minho, are hosting the Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) and Advanced Course Plant Molecular Responses in a Changing Environment, coordinated by Professor Hernâni Gerós and funded by the European Union’s Erasmus+ programme.

The programme brings together students, researchers and invited experts from several European institutions for an intensive training experience focused on plant adaptation to environmental challenges, climate change, and sustainable agricultural practices.

The first virtual phase takes place from 15 to 19 June and includes a series of invited lectures delivered by researchers from universities, research institutes and industry partners across Europe. Topics cover climate-resilient crops, plant microbiomes, metabolomics, genomic technologies, sustainable viticulture, smart farming and innovative plant protection strategies.

The on-site week, scheduled from 22 to 26 June at the University of Minho, will combine lectures, laboratory activities, scientific discussions and field-based learning experiences, providing participants with opportunities to engage directly with experts working at the forefront of plant and environmental sciences. A final online phase will take place from 29 June to 3 July, promoting continued collaboration and knowledge exchange among participants.

Teaching and training activities involve researchers from CBMA and the Department of Biology, together with invited specialists from the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, University of Lisbon, University of Porto, University of Wrocław (Poland), University of Córdoba (Spain), University of Tours (France), University of Zaragoza (Spain), the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL), the National Institute for Agricultural and Veterinary Research (INIAV), the Vinho Verde Wine Commission (CVRVV), ADVID/CoLAB Vines & Wines and Quinta do Crasto.

This Erasmus+ initiative provides a unique opportunity for students to interact with leading researchers and professionals working on the challenges that climate change poses to plants and agricultural systems, while fostering international collaboration and interdisciplinary learning.

This Erasmus+ BIP and Advanced Course reinforce CBMA and the Department of Biology’s commitment to internationalisation, scientific excellence and advanced training in plant and environmental sciences.
