Recent technological innovations, namely next-generation DNA sequencing, result in a massive amount of data only possible to process and analyze using software tools and high-throughput computing. The bioinformatics lab deals with both the application of existing software tools and the development of novel approaches for the analysis of genomic data. These analyses aim at the understanding of evolutionary processes and genomic diversity patterns at the population level, but also deeper evolutionary analysis of genomes/proteomes or specific genes within large genomic databases of living organisms. Currently the lab focuses on the evolution of humans, yeasts and bacterial species.
