Ecosystems and Global Change

We assess the impacts of biodiversity loss, invasive species, climate warming, wildfires, drought, and chemical emergent contaminants on ecosystem processes and services. The aquatic mesocosm facility at the Institute of Science and Innovation for Biosustanability (IB-S) will be used to simulate scenarios of global change under replicated-controlled conditions. Statistical and computational tools will provide novel scientific support to determine the risks, uncertainties and trends for the provision of ecosystem services derived from global climate change, and to incorporate this information in decision-making.
